Mom’s Mashed Sweet Potatoes

This is the recipe for my Mom’s mashed sweet potatoes.  It is my favorite Thanksgiving dish.  I beg her to make them every year when she comes to visit.

There’s not many ingredients and it’s simple to put together, which I like on the years I have to make it.

I love the salty/sweet combination this dish has.  The sweetness isn’t overpowering like other sweet potato dishes I’ve had.

My in-laws hate sweet potatoes, but every year they dig into this delectable dish.  If you are not a fan of sweet potatoes, I suggest giving this one a try and maybe you’ll change your mind.

Mom's Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Course Side Dish


  • 3 medium carrots
  • 3 large yams
  • 32 oz chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • salt and pepper to taste


  1. Cut veggies into chunks and boil in chicken broth over medium-high heat until tender - about 35 minutes.  Drain and mash.  Add cream and butter.  Whip with mixer until fluffy.  Salt and pepper to taste.
